Finding Family

Well, I find myself here once again where the team I’m raiding with has crumbled. We had been losing a few people here and there over the past couple of months for a whole bunch of different reasons. I’m not sure what happened, but this last week something snapped, and we were done. Through a combination of real life issues and people wanting a change, we dropped enough to not have enough people on the team to raid anymore.

It’s not a new story, and it’s not a story that we’ll never hear again. This is what happens. And even though I’ve been here so many times before, it doesn’t get any easier. Before raid on Wednesday we all logged on and had a chat about what everyone’s plans were. There was talk of server transfers to try and rebuild the team on a more populated server (and then further discussion about what the server might be); there were talks of staying put and pushing through it; there were talks of finding other teams, of going our separate ways… and of disbanding entirely. In the end, some people decided to move on, which in turn made other people also decide to move on to other teams rather than waiting for the numbers to come back up again.

There were no hard feelings towards the people who decided to leave for other teams. I totally understand it. Things weren’t perfect, and some people had really good reasons to go, but it still makes me sad. *shrug* It is what it is, and I truly hope everyone is happy wherever they end up.

In the meantime, there are 10-13 of us who have decided to stay and try and rebuild, rather than moving the guild to another server. Our team is 5/9 mythic… past the halfway mark of Tomb of Sargeras… so hopefully we will be able to attract some good players in time to get mythic Kil’Jaeden down. (Shameless plug! Here’s our recruit thread on the forums.)

For now, I’m just feeling sad. I know it’s (hopefully?) not my fault, but it doesn’t stop me from feeling like rubbish. Being in a guild and raid team like this always feels like a second family. We all spend so much time together, and we argue and celebrate wins… so it just feels weird everyone not being together any more. But like I said, it is what it is, and it will probably happen again. In the meantime, I’m holding out hope we find some more awesome players so we can get back to killing internet pixels. 🙂

Woof. That is some rough stuff. I must be very hard to sustain that level of interest over the long arc of an expansion.
Do you think that, partially, seeing how hard the last two bosses on the World First run is a factor?
I’m on your side, get you team and make some friends and family!

We haven’t gotten to the last two bosses on mythic yet, so it’s definitely not a factor for us. For me, I don’t understand the drop in interest in raiding, but I’m a bit of a dag and actually really enjoy the challenge of bashing our heads on the same boss for weeks before getting it.
I think for us, we have an older group of people,. which means real life is very good at getting in the way, which is mostly what seemed to happen here, at least for a few people.
Thanks for your well wishes lovely! 🙂

Aw, I am sorry to hear that, Cinder; I can easily recall how it was back when the guild I was in was through something similar.
Im even more sad to hear it, because of the time of year; it is so natural for a drop in activity from june to late august because of the season. But it is rare, if not impossible, to wait around for most players, until things start to stabilize and autumn awaits around the corner. I think many struggle these days, but it does not make it any easier, with such a change. We look to the game as something stable, and when it’s not, it can be so upsetting.

I wish you lots of luck and good times ahead with the people that stayed behind. Press on, hero! 🙂

For us, the time of year is less of an impact because we’re in Australia, so it’s kinda peak time for us in a way. It’s just real life getting in the way of our raiding fun!

Thank you for the well wishes lovely, and for stopping by. ❤

Ahh, I see, right, I was not aware of that. Right ok, real life is a tough one to beat; its hard with a more mature crowd of players – we are all bound to have lots of obligations in the real world that comes first 🙂

While I may not raid with the team, I’ve been GM through the ups and downs. People get frustrated, get tired of beating their face on the same boss week after week, see taking a step back to a lower level as the team giving up. We’ve been through it all. The one constant is me keeping the guild where it’s at. I see guilds form, race through Normal, hit some heroic walls, then disband, others go to new servers. We have stayed. We have worked hard. And slowly we’ve picked up more and more active people. We are 8/9 Heroic now. It’s not easy. But we are devoted to staying and doing the best we can with people that want to be here. I would stay. Recruit as best you can. Going to other high pop servers just leads to more opportunity for people to jump sooner. We still have a long way to go. Kil Jaeden is not the end.

I love beating my face against the same boss for ages 🙂 I’m weird like that, though, I know. For me it just makes the victory sweeter. But I do understand for others it’s frustrating.
I’m with you- I’d rather stay and try to rebuild. There is a core group of us sticking it out and trying to rebuild. Hopefully we will find some other people who like raiding with us so we can get back in there and kill them all!

I’m glad your team is doing well and staying solid. That’s a bloody brilliant achievement!

Things like this happens with guilds sometimes and I have been in a few that were going great guns raiding and doing things …suddenly, everyone seems to hit a wall whether it’s the game or life becomes a bit more intrusive on our entertainment. I have made my own guilds over the years and have stayed in them just to have a place to call my own and a place where I know my characters are. 😀
