Those who read my Bullet Journal post the other day may have noticed one of the pages looked like an empty bookshelf. This page is designed to filled with the titles of the books I’m reading. I thought it would be a nice way to track my reading and to encourage me to do more of it.

The thing is, I’m impatient, and I wanted that page to be a bit more interesting than what it was. So instead of adding a book when I finished it, I decided to add the title as I started each book, and highlight its spine as I read it. And now it’s more interesting! 😀

I thought I’d share with you all what I’m currently reading given I’m partway through 3 books at the moment.

The Zi’vyen by Kim Wedlock

This book is the first in a high fantasy trilogy. There’s magic, adventure, mystery, and some really interesting characters that I have very quickly become attached to. Kim is a wonderful writer, and is so good at making the world feel real. This book (and all in the series) will be what I call me ‘weekend reading’. They are the books that I can only really read on the weekends (or cheeky days off!) when I won’t be interrupted by anything. Where I can sit in my book nook with some coffee and my blanket (and sometimes even Tilly!) and just get completely caught up in the world. It does mean it’s much slower going, because I don’t get to read every weekend, but oh it is so worth it.

I honestly can’t even remember how I came across Kim and her work, but I have been a massive supporter ever since. Kim has a Patreon if you’re interested in supporting her, where she shares short stories each month. A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

If The Zi’vyen is my weekend book, A Court of Mist and Fury should probably be called my ‘easy reader’. This book is a second in a series of 5. It’s another fantasy, though a bit more of a romance/fantasy combo. And even though I call it an easy read (which it is), that doesn’t diminish how much I’m enjoying these books. And also hating them. It’s that love/hate relationship that you get with some characters, you know, where you just want to push them into a pool or something to make them wake up and come to their senses.

This book has fairies in a way I’d never thought of them before… and magic, of course. And it really is just a great fun book that you can pick up and put down as you need to throughout the day. I can read a chapter or two over lunch and put it down easily enough, without feeling like I’ve left a part of my soul between the pages. So far, I’d recommend this and the first book, A Court of Thorns and Roses if you like magic, faries, flirting and pining. (And thank you to Tiktok #booktok for getting me on to it).

The Barefoot Investor by Scott Pape

And now for something completely different. One of my current goals it to save for a deposit so I can sign my life away and buy my own house. I have never been good with money. Ever. I managed to get myself into debt in my late teens, and it’s been an uphill battle since. In fact, it was only last month that I was able to pay off my last credit. I am now officially debt free! But… I have nothing to show for it.

Anyway, I clearly need help with my finances, and I was speaking with one of my best friends the other week and he suggested I give this book a read. So I grabbed and got started (only just!). The great thing about this book is that is written for Australian people. I can’t tell you how frustrating it can be seeing a book that looks like it would be super helpful if only I lived in the US. So this is really nice.
