Blaugust 2022 – 16 – Dragonflight Alpha

You wouldn’t think it seeing my blog, but I’ve actually had access to Dragonflight Alpha for quite a few weeks. It’s really a testament to how busy work was that I haven’t been plastering this place with screenshots! Thanks to my 4 days off, though, I got to spend some time this weekend having a play around through some actual content.

I started with the Dracthyr starting zone.

Good news – it’s FANTASTIC!!!

Bad news – it was so engaging that I actually forgot to take screenshots. I KNOW! Who even am I? I was just having so much fun learning how to play this new class and taking part in a really… well, tragic story. I was hooked straight away. I’m sure people could zoom through the first part of it really quickly, but I took ages, playing around with soaring and simply marvelling over the fact that we have dragons in game again. 😀

I did take one screenshot, which was of a rescue and escort quest. BUBBY TUSKARR!!

look at that little bubbies ❤

I realised my error when I got to Stormwind and thought – yeah I gotta post about that! And realised I had no pretty pictures for you lol

I’m back in game now, and I’ve gone and made a max level toon to play around with for healing. Here her are Dracthyr and Visage forms to give you a sneak peak:

Honestly I think all of my gold is going to go into changing her appearance every 5 minutes lol

So right now I’m building myself a spreadsheet so that I can compare my restoration shaman abilities with the preservation evoker abilities. There’s always some element of cross-over (or near enough) so I’m wanting to identify those for my keybinds. E.g. Resto shamans have Riptide which does an initial heal on a player and then ticking healing over a period of time. Similarly, preservation evokers have an ability called Reversion which is also a heal over time ability (just without the initial heal). So for my healing keybinds I use right-click on my frames for Riptide, and I’ll likely use right-click for Reversion as well.

I know it sounds really stupid, but it just helps me wrap my head around new things.

I would like to be active in this Alpha because I want to help contribute somehow, but I’m also limited on time, so my focus is testing out preservation evoker as much as possible. Loads of people will do the dps side of things, but there’s always fewer healers so I’d like to help with that.

Stupidly though, aside from evokers, want to know one of my favourite things about Dragonflight so far? The UI changes. 😀 Seriously, they are really great, to the point where it’s entirely possible I might not use Elvui for the first time since I started playing. I KNOW!

Anyway, that’s it for now, getting back to the spreadsheet. I’ll try and take more pics in the future adventures! 🙂

I do the same thing. Some classes really lend themselves to being translatable into others. Druid and Shaman healers have a nearly identical tool kit. The only really noticeable differences are for one class a spell is instant and the other it’s got a cast time, and one class might have multiple versions of a spell while the other has one.

I would really love to see your shaman vs. dracthyr notes when you’ve finished them. I’ll try to convert them to druid for you.

I will definitely share it when it’s done 🙂
